Well, it's done!! The band tracks of the 13 songs for Sylkie's next CD are finished, and each track is a little diamond! The session and overdubs in March went really well. The 5 original compositions that were tracked include:

Laughin' (Just To Keep Me From Cryin')
       Steal Your Crown
      Can't Have It All
      I Don't Wanna Do This
      Can't Be Worse (than L.A.)

Sylkie says: "The band really rocked and it seems we're having more fun everytime we do a session. I feel so blessed to be working in this environment. It's a true inspiration. But most of all, the music reflects what my intention was for this record from the beginning: It sounds like a bunch of good friends got together to have fun playing music. And that's exactly what we did!"
The musicians on the above-mentioned tracks are the following:

   Eddie Bayers (drums)
   Brent Mason  (E-guitar)
   Bruce Bouton (steel guitar/dobro)
   Danny Parks (acoustic guitar/mandoline)
   Matt McKenzie (bass)
   Buddy Hyatt (piano/organ)

Sylkie is going to head back to Nashville in summer to finish the vocals. "This project has grown amazingly and has taken shape in less than a year", she says. "I'm deeply grateful that I could share this wonderful experience with such great musicians and friends. A lot of people kept asking me for a long time when I would go back in the studio again. I always hesitated to get started with a new CD because I wanted the circumstances and conditions to be right. My main goal was to work in a nourishing, creative and relaxed environment without any filters in my head. I wanted to make music with people I love and care about, who understand blindly where I come from musically. I think the musical results we've got here prove that it was more than worth the long wait. This record truely shows who I am, as a writer, as an artist and last but not least as a producer. It is a reflection of where I'm standing in my life right now and comes straight from my heart."

The title of the album has therefore been chosen accordingly:  G  E  N  U  I  N  E.

OK. The bags are almost packed for another trip to Nashville...
There's more songs to record with the band and plenty of vocal
tracks to cut...For now, here's some pictures Sylkie promised to
share a while back.

Wow - What a year!

With the second recording unit for the new album successfully
finished in late November, Sylkie is back at home for Christmas
and more than pleased with the musical results this year has provided.
Four new songs were tracked at Funhouse Studio, Nashville, in late
November with the band consisting of:

EDDIE BAYERS  (drums),
BRENT MASON (electric guitar),
DANNY PARKS ( acoustic & electric guitar, mandolin),
BUDDY HYATT (piano, hammond organ, keyboards) and
MARK PRENTICE (bass).

"The sound of these tracks is fantastic", Sylkie says. "We caught  some
real magical moments  in the music during this session. I'm truely looking
forward to singing the vocals of these songs next year. We always track
scratch vocals when we cut the band.  That already felt like flying!"

The original songs she produced this time  include:  RIGHT AT HELLO;
ALL THE PLACES; SOMETHING IN ME; TAKE IT SLOW.

Sylkie adds: "ALL THE PLACES was a hit for the English band BND in
the late 90s. I'm excited to finally record the song how I intended it to
sound when I wrote it."

Sylkie just returned to Nashville from a 4-week trip to her beloved Indian country at Wind River, Wyoming/USA.

The real deal: Indian country out west

Prior to this trip, she started recording her new album at the Funhouse Studio/Nashville in June. The session band included
Eddie Bayers (drums),
Brent Mason (electric guitar),
Mike Noble (acoustic guitar),
Buddy Hiatt (keyboards/piano) and
Duncan Mullins (bass).

"We have tracked 4 songs so far", she says, "and I'm very pleased with and proud of the results."
Sylkie has written all the material and is also producing herself. "It's a blessing to work with musicians like Eddie and Brent, who add so much of their spirits and souls to the session and the music. I think this record is gonna be the best of what I've done musically so far. And it will be truly and entirely me from the first to the last note. It just feels so right."
Currently, Sylkie is back in the studio to record vocals for the following four original compositions:
WHERE MY RIVER RUNS, WHAT WE COULD'VE BEEN,
LITTLE DID YOU KNOW and SHINE SHINE SHINE.
